About the Act

The Workforce Housing Affordability Act will raise approximately $5 million annually in the City of Santa Cruz to increase the supply of workforce housing.

Key highlights:

  • Community investment to construct new homes for lower-income workers, especially downtown and in transit-rich areas in the City of Santa Cruz.

  • Funding to prevent evictions, preserve senior housing, and to establish housing-focused shelters.

  • Innovative hybrid revenue measure that includes a modest parcel tax and a larger real estate transfer tax for high-end real estate transactions

  • Greater access to state and federal workforce housing and supportive housing funds.
